I recently came back from the first ‘Wales Festival of Seaweed’ in St Davids, Pembrokeshire.
From Thursday the 16th - Sunday 19th of May, the UK's smallest city was transformed into a showcase of all things seaweed!
The 'limited edition' sea spaghetti and dulse seaweed pizza (created by local restaurant Grain)
These included:
Some fascinating talks (featuring speakers from PlantSea, WWF and more),
Seaweed-themed stalls
Food featuring seaweed (such as seaweed-packed veg bowls, sea spaghetti & dulse pizza, and cooking demonstrations)
The event was a collaboration between local businesses: Câr y Môr seaweed farm and Really Wild Emporium (who have an award-winning restaurant, sell seaweed skincare products and run seaweed foraging courses). Many other local businesses also took part, so it really was a community effort!
More exciting news: thanks to head chef at the Really Wild Emporium, Jonathan Morrell, SuperSeaweed will soon be posting his recipe for laver oatcakes with dulse hollandaise sauce - so stay tuned.
The Câr y Môr seaweed farm was one of the event co-organisers
It’s incredible to see initiatives like this raising the public awareness of the wonders of seaweed. Even better, they plan to do it again next year!
